Why The Sunrise Layout For The Sprout Quilt Challenge
Thanks for joining in on the traditional Sprout Quilt Challenge, starting January 1st 2025.
Well, the layout name might have more to do with the color palette of this design than the layout. Really it’s some simple sashing to give the blocks a bit of room to shine.
What’s special about the Sunrise layout? It’s all about creating balance. By adding a little breathing space between the blocks, this design allows the beauty of each individual block to shine through. The subtle spacing provides a calm and airy aesthetic, perfect for showcasing your fabric choices.
This is just to show you how it will look. The actual quilt is still in the works and coming along nicely.
How the Layout Works
The breathing space in the Sunrise layout is achieved by adding sashing and slightly separating the quilt blocks. For this quilt, I’m planning to use the background color in the blocks for the sashing to keep the focus on the blocks themselves. I would though love to see if any of you go with a contrasting color, framing the quilt blocks.
Benefits of the Sunrise Layout
- Focus on Individual Blocks: Each block becomes a focal point, with room to appreciate the details.
- A Balanced Design: The spacing introduces a sense of calm, making the overall quilt feel balanced.
- Versatile Style: Whether your blocks are vibrant or muted, this layout complements a wide range of fabric choices.
Tips for Trying the Sunrise Layout
- Choose Your Sashing: Neutral colors or subtle prints work well to maintain balance.
- Plan Your Block Placement: Experiment with different arrangements to see how placement affects the overall flow.
- Consider Fabric Texture: A textured or low-volume fabric can add subtle depth to the sashing.
As the Sprout quilt challenge approaches, I’m excited to see how this layout enhances the overall design. If you’re participating, are you considering a specific layout? Let me know your thoughts or tag me on Instagram @josimpsondesign to share your progress!
