New to Quilting? Start Here

If you’re new to quilting and feeling a little overwhelmed… you’re in the right place.

Quilting is one of those crafts that looks incredibly cozy and magical from the outside but once you decide you actually want to try it, suddenly there are a lot of opinions, tools, and tutorials telling you different things.

So let’s slow this way down.

First, here’s what you need to know

If you’re new to quilting, you do not need to buy everything right away. You don’t need the fanciest sewing machine, a wall of rulers, or perfectly coordinated fabric collections.

What you really need is:

  • A basic understanding of the quilting process

  • A beginner-friendly starting point

  • Permission to be imperfect

That’s it.

What quilting actually is (big picture)

Quilting is simply sewing fabric pieces together to make a quilt top, layering it with batting and backing, quilting those layers together, and finishing the edges with binding.

That might sound like a lot, but when it’s broken into clear steps, it’s completely doable for beginners.

If quilting feels overwhelming…

That doesn’t mean you’re bad at it.
It just means no one has explained it clearly yet.

Most beginners struggle because they’re trying to learn quilting out of order or from scattered tutorials. A clear path makes all the difference.

If you’re new to quilting and want a calm, beginner-friendly way to learn from start to finish, this is exactly why I created Your First Quilt Class so you don’t have to guess your way through it.

And I'll let you know when the next class is starting.
