Sewing that Fits You: Accommodation and Adaptation with Rebecca Cartwright
What if your sewing practice truly worked with your body, energy, and needs?
In this presentation, Rebecca introduces an adaptive approach to sewing that’s helpful for all sewists - disabled or nondisabled, neurodivergent or neurotypical.
With empathic curiosity and self-compassion, we’ll look at practical ways to adapt your work area, tools, and practice so sewing feels more accessible, efficient, and enjoyable.
Please Note: In the All Access Pass, this one session will expire Oct 15, 2027. The rest are all lifetime access.

Rebecca Cartwright is a disabled and neurodivergent speaker, educator, and inclusion advocate living in the Chicago suburbs. Through presentations, workshops, and individualized services, she helps people transform their spaces from accidentally ableist to intentionally inclusive through practical, everyday actions.
By weaving together pragmatic advice and personal storytelling, she creates nonjudgmental entry points that encourage participants to learn, reflect, and act with self-awareness and compassion.
Since being diagnosed with a degenerative muscle disease in 2010, garment making and quilting have been sources of comfort, self-accommodation, and creative expression.
Her work has appeared in a variety of British and American publications, including QuiltCon magazine and Love Patchwork & Quilting.
Rebecca also advocates for inclusion on social media, makes art quilts about living in ableist culture, and facilitates the Anti-Ableist Makers Society – an online learning community exploring how ableist culture affects our creative practice and the spaces we craft in.
